When to Book Your Wedding Florals and Décor: A Simple Timeline

The right floral and décor team can transform a venue, but great designers book their dates well in advance. Starting early gives you more choice, more time to dream and less pressure at the end.

9 to 12 months before

Once you have a date and a venue, reach out to your floral and décor designer. Many studios take a limited number of weddings each season, especially for peak dates. This is the time to share your overall vision, guest count and rough budget.

6 to 8 months before

  • ✦Visit your venue with your designer, or share the floor plan.
  • ✦Choose your colour palette and the feeling you want guests to have.
  • ✦Decide on key moments: ceremony backdrop, head table, entrance, cake table.

3 to 4 months before

Review the full proposal and make final decisions on rentals, linens, candles and any custom pieces. Specialty items often need longer lead times, so settle them early.

The final month

Confirm the guest count, delivery times and venue access. Share your timeline with your designer and planner so setup is smooth and nothing is left to chance.

A note on seasons

Peonies, tulips and ranunculus are loved in spring, hydrangeas and garden roses in summer, and dahlias and rich, warm tones in fall. A good designer will suggest the best blooms for your date and budget.
